Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Coffee maker or espresso machine
  • Milk frother or steamer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Glass or mug

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened apple juice or apple cider
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • Pinch ground cloves
  • 1 tsp vanilla extrac

Instructions

  • Make the Apple Brown Sugar Syrup
In a saucepan, combine apple juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar fully dissolves. Simmer gently for 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let cool slightly.
  • Prepare espresso using an espresso machine, Moka pot, or Aeropress. Set aside.
  • Heat and Froth the Oatmilk
Warm oatmilk until steaming, then froth until creamy and smooth.
  • Assemble the Hot Macchiato
Add apple brown sugar syrup to a mug. Pour in steamed oatmilk. Slowly add espresso on top to create the macchiato layer. Finish with a drizzle of syrup or apple pie spice.
  • Assemble the Iced Version (Optional)
Fill a glass with ice. Add syrup, pour in cold oatmilk, then gently float espresso on top. Drizzle with syrup before serving.

Notes

  • Use unsweetened apple juice to avoid overpowering sweetness
  • Oatmilk enhances apple flavor better than dairy alternatives
  • Strong coffee is essential for balance
  • Syrup thickens slightly more as it cools
  • Store leftover syrup refrigerated for up to 7 days
